Butterfly Room: 12-18 months

My name is Pat Hunt. This will be my fifth year working in the Butterfly Room. I love working with this age, watching and helping them learn to interact and play with other children, as well as, teaching them as they are able. I feel blessed and count it a privilege to care for your children. The other teachers in the room this year will be Fran Peplos (3rd year at MDO), Hazel Akers (2nd year), and Flo Ziemer who is returning to MDO after a year off.
The children in this class are between the ages of 12 to 18 months. It is such a joy working with this age as we guide the children in developing their own personalities, and it is rewarding to watch this happen as the year progresses. It is such a blessing to be able to care for and love these children.

Several of the children in our room will be attending Mom’s Day Out for the first time. Each child is individual and special and will respond to the room and teachers in a different way. Please be assured that the tears in the beginning will be handled with love, patience, and understanding. During the first couple of weeks we will be working on acclimating them to their new environment. For some this will be difficult, and for others it will come naturally. Eventually, for ALL it will be possible.

As the year progresses and the children find that Mom’s Day Out is a safe, comfortable, and fun place to be, we will be working on simple songs, crafts, and Bible stories.

Some general social skills we hope your toddler will develop during his/her time with us include learning how to:
  1. Interact with other children.
  2. Listen and follow directions.
  3. Cooperate and share with other children.
Each day your child comes to Mom’s Day Out, please send with them:
  1. Two (2) diapers (with extra to keep in their "cubby").
  2. Bottle or sippy cup.
  3. Lunches with finger foods (chopped fresh fruit and veggies, crackers, cheese, diced meat, plain pasta, cubed bread, PB&J, cereal).
  4. Extra set of clothes in a large Ziploc bag for those unexpected accidents.
Please label the above items and any other of your child’s belongings with a permanent marker- this includes pacifiers, please.
Below is our “tentative” schedule for the Butterfly Room:
