Ministry Description:

Pierre and Lisa serve with The Word for the World, an interdenominational mission that focuses on training nationals for Bible translation. Two conferences have taken place to build support for and recruit Roma nationals for translating the Bible into the Eastern Slovak Romani dialect, the dialect spoken by most of Slovakia’s estimated 300,000 Roma. The second conference took place in the Ukraine in 2008 with the Ukrainian mission Hope to People (founded in 1993). Having the Bible in their national language would help with evangelizing and church planting among the Roma. Pierre is responsible for the Rom church in the village Hlinné, an extension of the Hermanovce Cirkev Bratska. Sunday services take place Sunday afternoons, plus the church has mid-week meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Lisa assists with children's ministry in Hlinné. They coordinate evangelistic events to reach the Roma in other villages, such as showings of the Jesus Film, evangelistic worship services, and street evangelism. Pierre also assists the Hermanovce Cirkev Bratska at its extension in Girlatovce, where Sunday services began in January 2008. Part of the work in Giraltovce includes outreach to the Giraltovce Roma.
